This guide will take you through the process to add new games to your PlayStation Classic. This is a pretty clever hack that does nothing to your PlayStation Classic itself and should offer almost no risk to damaging your console. That doesn't mean there isn't a risk, however, so do this modification at your own risk. That being said let's take a look at the steps you will need to take.

Update: May 8, 2019: BleemSync has a completely new UI and setup process. This article has been rewritten to accurately reflect those changes.

Step by step

  1. Insert your flash drive into the USB slot on your PC.
  2. Open your file manager.
  3. Right click on your flash drive
  4. Select the Format button. Ensure the format type is set for FAT32. If it isn't FAT32 or EXT4 this will not work.
  5. Rename the Label of your Flash drive to SONY. It needs to be in capital letters or this will not work.
  6. Click Start to Format your flash drive. This will prepare it for the games.

  7. Download the latest release of BleemSync from ModMyClassic. Do not download it into the flash drive.
  8. Extract the ZIP file to your flash drive now labeled SONY. It will extract several folders onto your flash drive.

  9. Remove the flash drive from the PC.
  10. Remove all the cables from your PlayStation Classic.
  11. Insert the flash drive into the controller 2 port on your PlayStation Classic.
  12. Insert the Micro-USB cable into the correct socket on the Classic. You can also plug your HDMI in if you want to, but it isn't needed for this process to work.
  13. You will see an orange light appear on your Classic. Once you do press the power button on the console.
  14. You will now see the LED change color as it changes the files on the console. It should change through orange, green, and red.

  15. Once the console cycles back to an orange LED, BleemSync is correctly installed!
  16. Remove the Micro-USB cable from the PlayStation Classic and the power brick.
  17. Insert the Micro-USB cable into your PC.
  18. Make sure your USB flash drive is in controller port 2 on the console.
  19. Plug your Micro-USB cable into the Console. The drivers should install automatically.
  20. When the LED turns orange, turn on the Console as normal.
  21. Wait 10-20 seconds.
  22. In your browser (not Internet Explorer) visit Bleemsyncui.com to start adding games. note: this link will only work after you have completed all of the above steps.

  23. On the game manager screen, click the choose files button to open your file manager.
  24. Use the .bin and .cue files of your game to upload. You do not need to worry about the picture or other details, it will populate automatically.

  25. Once you have installed all the games you want, turn off the Console.
  26. Remove the Micro-USB plug from the PC and the Console.
  27. Plug the Console's HDMI and Micro-USB into the Console.
  28. Turn on the Console. You will see the LED's flicker as it boots the system.
  29. On the splash screen select BleemSync as your launcher.

So there we are, you can now have any PlayStation One game loaded on to the PlayStation Classic. It even has the original 20 games still installed for you to play. This is one of the simplest and safest hacks I've seen for the Classic and I am hoping there will be more to come. Bleemsync already has working controller support for other controllers such as the Xbox One and Steam controllers.

How to add games to the PlayStation Classic

Sandisk 16GB Flashdrive

Let’s face it: If you own a PS3 and have played a few games, then you might have had some trouble with that strong boss at the end of one game or perhaps you’ve already beaten it, but still can’t manage to find all the items and secret levels that you hoped for.

If that is the case then you can always “cheat” a little bit by using someone else’s PS3 Save files, allowing you to gain all their upgrades and high scores effortlessly.

Here’s how to do it:

Note: Also, take a look at our other PS3 tutorials, where we show you how to install custom themes and change your PS3 wallpaper without a computer.

Locating Your PS3 Save File

Step 1: Perform a web search for the term PS3 Game Save Downloads or something similar. Choose a website from among the results.

Step 2: On the site you choose, search for the game you want to download a Save file for. Select one from all the available ones and download it to your computer.

Once you do, locate the file and unzip it. When you do, you will see a folder that is named something similar to the one below and that has several files with uncommon extensions inside. Leave the folder as it is for now.

Getting Your USB Drive Ready

Step 3: Plug a USB drive into your computer and open it. Inside, create a folder named PS3 (all caps) and within that folder create another one named SAVEDATA (again all caps).

Important Note: In order for your USB drive to work with your PS3, it needs to be in the FAT32 format.

Getting Your Save File Onto Your PS3

Step 4: Once your USB drive is ready, copy the Save file you downloaded from the web and paste it inside the SAVEDATA folder. Then unplug the USB from your computer, turn on your PS3 and plug the USB drive to your PS3.

Step 5: On your PS3 go to the Game menu and scroll down until you find the Saved Data Utility option. Select it and then find and choose the USB Device (Storage Media) option as well.

Step 6: Inside, you will find your shinny Save file waiting to be copied to your PS3 before you can use it. To do so, press the Triangle button to display the file options and select Copy.

The file will then be copied to your PS3 without problems and will be ready for you to use the next time you start your game.

Note: If you have played the game before, then a Save file for it will have already been created. In this case you will be given the option of overwriting the file or not, since there is no way to have the two files on your PS3 at the same time.

And there you go. A quite simple method to to literally get you “ahead of the game” with that PS3 game you really want to master.
